A Response to the State of the Union

While Americans suffer from a stagnant economy, high unemployment, and a record $15 trillion debt,  President Obama, in Tuesday's State of the Union Address, advocated more of the same: trillions in spending, higher taxes, and more aggressive regulations.

He called for more government-based solutions and redistributive wealth policies, all while ignoring unpopular signature legislation like the Stimulus, the Frank-Dodd Act, and Obamacare.

Dan Patlak: Why I'm Running For Re-Election For The Cook County Board Of Review

With property values steadily declining and property taxes going up because of continued demand for more money each year from local governmental units such as schools, villages and park districts, property owners have a right to know they are fairly assessed and paying no more than their fair share of taxes. The Board of Review is the last avenue of appeal for many tax payers and the promises I made were all designed to ensure a timely and fair review at the Board.

CBS 2 CHICAGO Young Republicans Weigh In On GOP Presidential Debate

CHICAGO (CBS)– Four members of the Chicago Young Republicans watched the GOP presidential debate Saturday with CBS 2′s Suzanne Le Mignot.

Eight republicans running for president took the stage in South Carolina to field questions about national security and foreign policy, among other topics.

CYR member John Giokaris praised presidential contender Mitt Romney for saying he would not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.

“I think he’s absolutely right,” Giokaris told Le Mignot. “If Iran gets a nuclear weapon, it’s a complete game-changer in the Middle East.  Iran is a very openly hostile regime, not just to us, but most of their neighbors as well.”

Both Cathryn Biga and Jim McKiernan got a chuckle out of Newt Gingrich’s comments regarding foreign aid: “You ought to start out at zero and say, ‘Explain to me why I should give you a penny?’”

“As a tax-paying citizen, I can see how we’re always, giving, giving, giving.  If we have a country here, like Pakistan that isn’t really, in my eyes, showing that they’re an ally towards us, why do we keep giving them money?" Biga said.
