Chicago Young Republicans Weigh In

Ruminations of a Chicago Young Republican- Obama the "Joker"

By now you may have seen the Obama "Joker" pictures on the Web.  The image depicts the President as Heath Ledger’s Joker character from the Dark Night film, with the word “socialism” written in bold black type underneath.  The pictures are undeniably spooky, and also unexplainably eye-catching.  Critics have already begun assailing the representation: A Los Angeles community organization cried that it's “mean-spirited and dangerous."  The liberal tabloid, the L.A. Weekly, even called the image racist.  "The only thing missing is a noose," one of its deranged authors wrote  ...  .... ...

Are they serious?

Before I make my well-reasoned point, I feel the need to ask again… Are… They…Serious?? (emphasis added to the “serious” part)   Mockery, parody, and satire were all mainstays for President Bush during his eight years.  These expressive critiques consistently bordered on inappropriateness, and always seemed tired and excessive.  Now, one clever spoof of Obama in the eighth month of his presidency has got some libs upset.  Poor babies.

Thomas Lifson, editor of American Thinker website, captured the reality when he reacted to the images online: “It is starting…Open mockery of Barack Obama, as disillusionment sets in with the man, his policies, and the phony image of a race-healing, brilliant, scholarly middle-of-the-roader.”

Oh yeah, and here’s the best part:  Vanity Fair produced similar “art” just a year ago featuring President Bush. (http://www.vanityfair.com/online/politics/2008/07/bush-as-joker.html)  And not to be outdone, the hypocritical L.A. Weekly featured Bush as Dracula on its cover in 2004.

Where were these zany critics then?  The only joke is their hypocrisy.
