Chicago Young Republicans Weigh In

Budget, anyone?

On the one hand, there is something a little ironic about asking for donations on this website. But the GOP's aim to build awareness - and ideally outrage - about the Obama administration's nonexistent budget is nevertheless critical.

Of course, the mere presence of a national budget is meaningless if it is not taken seriously or adhered to. Without it, though, we are assured of neither, and any semblance of the government's accountability to the people and their money is impossible. As the site notes, there has always been a budget in the modern era. If for no other reason than to prohibit one branch of government from having unchecked power, established limits on Congressional spending and appropriations must exist. Even if this principle were not clearly outlined in the Constitution, I think we can all agree on this point. Symbolic though it probably is - after all, this administration hardly worries about a "buy now, pay later" fiscal philosophy - no budget is not an option.

Given that the people behind this new site are also the people behind the notoriously ridiculous GOP "faces" campaign, it's highly unlikely that the "Donate to the RNC!" irony is intentionally humorous. But then again, the missing budget isn't all that funny either.
