A month-long "Dare to be Right" Membership Drive peaked on June 29th as the CYRs celebrated its Summer Membership Event in Wrigleyville. The Republican-style Rock the Vote party was one of the most ambitious and far-reaching events attempted in Chicago and the result was an unprecedented success.
Nearly 800 young Republican Chicagoans flocked to the Cubby Bear to see numerous special GOP guests, popular Chicago 80s cover band "Sixteen Candles" and DJ Tony Tone. Guest speakers included Congressman Aaron Schock, former U.S. Senate candidate Jack Ryan, author Harry Stein, media young-guns Mary Katherine Ham and Guy Benson, and five of our party's most prominent candidates for governor, Cook County Commissioner Tony Peraica plus countless more.
All spoke of the resurgence of youth activity as the catalyst for GOP rebuilding, and consistently laid praise on the CYRs for our undeniable achievements. Local media was on hand to spotlight the event. In total, it was the largest GOP gathering in Chicago in years, and cemented the CYRs as the center for youth political activity in Illinois.
Thank you to everyone for attending and helping us throughout this past month! Needless to say, we couldn't have done it without your support. And while the membership drive has concluded and our ranks swell to new highs, look for the CYRs to continue to "dare" young Chicagoans to reveal their Republican stripes.
