Chicago Young Republicans Weigh In

Interesting twist on redistricting

This article was nice to see.  The redistricting of IL is unfair to Latinos.  But you never see Democrats talk about that much, besides the couple of politicians mentioned in the article.  Could you imagine how Democrats would react if it was Republicans supporting a redistricting move with the same concequence to Latinos?  Anyways, it's just another reason this redistricting is bad news for IL.

Pathetic IL unemployment statistics

This article was a fake-out. The headline is that 'Unemployment rate falls in most Illinois metro areas'.  I thought maybe it would be good news, since I must be an optimist.  Then I read the article, and found that AFTER the drop in unemployment in Rockford it was 'down' to 13.1%  Wow, it went from an F minus to an F.  Keep up the good work, Quinn!

Election polls

According to this article, Obama's chance of re-election isn't so great.  That doesn't surprise me.  His approval rating had a boost after Bin Laden got killed, but I knew that was short -lived.  He really has to pull it together with the economy to stand a chance.

Another reason to support free markets

I came across this article, and the big takeaway is to support free markets. 31 million dollars of taxpayer money is down the drain because, apparently, the government will invest in a business even if it is completely incompetent.  If you were investing in a company, wouldn't you make sure they weren't going to end up bankrupt first?  Of course, because it would be a huge waste if you aren't going to get your money back.

Weiner is totally irresponsable

So after all that lying, it turns out that the pics were real all along.  And he isn't resigning.  To me, the lying is an act of irresponsability.  How can you account for something that you claimed never happened?  And now that the truth is out there, he won't do anthing about it.  He thinks it should be business as usual which doesn't show any responsability either.  All in all, Weiner is acting like a complete baby...except for those lewd pics that is.

Obamacare waiver list

 Here's the list

Now, I've found this list to be amusing.  It's amazing how many surprising, and ironic, companies there are opting out of Obamacare. It's ironic that there are tons of unions, disease and welfare charities, and even gyms opting out.  But what I found to be the most surprising was a casino that was opting out.  If a casino can't afford it, who can???  Or maybe companies can opt out even if the can afford it if they have the right connections...

Another country, another bailout

Portugal's turn.  It seems like more and more countries are having economic problems, but it would still be worse if there was a world government.  Instead of one country bringing a few others down at a time, the world's economy would colapse in one swift recession.  But of course, sovereignty is offensive.

AARP audit/corruption

As a young Republican, I never bothered learning much about AARP.  I've got a ways to go before I need to care.  But I came across this article, and since I have an interest in corruption I thought I'd pass it along:

Newest CBO numbers

Article here

It seems like every time I turn on the news, there are new numbers every time.  The budgets for various things are different, the debt in different time frames always changes...it's impossible to keep up.  This is the newest one I've found.

Borders Bankruptcy

I'm not surprised at all.  First of all, it seems like lots of people go there to read and don't end up buying anything.  Second of all, their prices just don't compete enough with Amazon.  Their coupons are nice, but 30% off one item that I have to pay sales tax on isn't as good as 34% of items that don't have sales tax.

According to the article, most stores in the city are closing.  I can't wait to see what stores will open in their place.
