The Chicago Young Republicans Organization was re-established in January of 2005 with the leadership of Joan Cannon and Matt Rettberg.   Since then, the Chicago Young Republicans have consistently been involved in many grassroots efforts including phone banking, literature drops, petition gathering, and voter registration drives. Additionally, the Chicago Young Republicans continue to have a presence at local, state, and national Young Republican meetings and conventions.

2005 was an exciting and productive year for the Chicago Young Republicans. Frequent social events are a large part of the organization with events that have included a jazz cruise and a dinner in Greektown. The Chicago Young Republicans also co-hosted events such as a candidate meet and greet with the Chicago Women's Republican Network (thought to be one of the premier meet-and-greets in Chicago of the primary season), assisted in a military tribute hosted by the Chicago Republican Party, and helped during a Straw Poll event hosted by the Committeemen of the 32nd and 43rd Wards of Chicago.   In the fall of 2005, the Chicago Young Republicans organized their own co-ed softball team, complete with team name (The Pachyderms) and team logo (an elephant holding a bat in his trunk).  Chicago Young Republicans were honored at the National Young Republican 2006 Summer Board meeting as the “Best Small Club” in the nation for 2005.

In, 2006 Chicago YRs took part in numerous political activities, including primary signature gathering, petition challenges, literature drops, and hosting the Cook County Convention After-Party. The Chicago YRs were involved in grassroots activities in anticipation of the 2006 gubernatorial election and community service projects (Habitat for Humanity, holiday clothing drive).  CYRs also added a co-ed volleyball team. Chicago YRs social events were recognized in TimeOut Chicago magazine

In 2007, CYRs sent a delegation to the Young Republican National Convention in Hollywood, FL.  Mitt Romney, Duncan Hunter, Fred Thompson, Charlie Christ and others spoke to a crowd of 450 delegates from across the country.  In October, CYRs participated in the Federation of Illinois Young Republicans State Convention in Springfield where the United Republican Fund hosted a day-long grassroots campaign school provided by the nationally-recognized Leadership Institute.   Monthly happy hours and a Greektown dinner were successful social networking activities and CYR members enjoyed a special invitation to the annual 42nd Ward GOP Boat Cruise.

In 2008, CYRs co-hosted a Super Tuesday election night party with other GOP organizations and sent a delegation to the 2008 Young Republican Leadership Conference in Washington, DC.  The YRLC featured panel discussions, training sessions, and speakers.  Monthly happy hours remain on the schedule.  A Volley Ball Team and a Book Club are in the works.  Chicago Young Republicans will join forces with the College Republicans to host a hospitality suite at the State GOP Convention.  Moreover, members are preparing for the November elections by working closely with Illinois Young Professionals for McCain and positioning Young Republicans as a dominant force in the election of a Republican President and Congressional majority in 2008.
